To edit your profile location, begin by going to your Account & Settings page. Then, click the Edit/Verify Your Location below your listed location.
A window will open where you can enter your street address and / or your city. Clicking save will update your location!
Your street address will always be kept private, but members will be able to view the city, state, and country that you live in.
To make sure your location is saved correctly, be sure to select a City, State (if applicable), and Country location from the autocomplete search bar in the "Location" field, even if you are not entering a street address. This will populate the corresponding fields below. Adding additional information to the location fields after they have been populated may cause the site to not be able to find your location.
If you continue to see the error "We were unable to determine your location...", here are some additional steps that may help:
1) As we use the Google location database, find your location using Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps Once you find your location, notice the format that they show to describe your location.
2) Go to the Couchsurfing location form and delete any existing information in the location fields.
3) Using the format found on Google Maps, search for and select your location from the autocomplete search bar (do not pick a location if it is *completely underlined*).
4) Adding text to the location fields after the fields have been populated from the autocomplete bar may cause the site to not be able to find a match in our location database, causing you to not appear in search results.
If you want to be more specific about a location that the site was unable to find, you may wish to add additional information about your location, like landmarks nearby, in the My Home section of your profile (or in direct messages to Surfers planning to stay with you).
Still not working?
Please send us a link to the Google maps page showing your exact location.
