Planning a trip? This is where it all starts. Create a Trip to share where you're headed, discover hosts and events at each destination, and connect with travelers and locals along the way. Hosts can see your Trip and reach out to invite you to stay, so the more detail you add, the better your chances of landing a great connection.
How Do I Create a Trip?
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Scroll to Your Trips and tap View Your Trips
- Tap + New Trip in the top right corner
- Search for a destination and select it from the results
- Add your trip details and you're all set
On the web:
- Click Trips
in the left navigation bar
- Click + New Trip in the top right corner
- Search for a destination and select it from the results
- Add your trip details and you're all set
From there, you're ready to explore. Add more destinations, set your trip goals, and start browsing hosts, events, and other travelers at each stop.
What Can I Do on My Trip Page?
Your Trip page is where you manage all the details. Here's what you can customize:
- Trip name: Tap or click the pencil icon next to the trip title to rename it
- Dates: Set flexible dates (a range of months) at the trip level, or set specific dates for individual destinations
- Number of travelers: Use the dropdown to update how many people are traveling
- Trip vibe: Share what you're looking for on this Trip. This helps hosts and other travelers understand your plans
- Trip goals: Tap or click Add Goals to select from options like Meet Locals, Meet Travelers, Get Local Tips, and Look for a Host
- Trip privacy: Choose between Public (visible on location pages and in traveler search) or Friends Only (only your friends can see this Trip)
How Do I Add Destinations to a Trip?
Planning to visit multiple places? You can add up to 15 destinations to a single Trip. Destination dates can overlap, so multi-city plans are no problem.
On mobile:
- Tap into the Trip you want to update
- Tap the + next to Itinerary
- Search for and select your next destination
On the web:
- Click into the Trip you want to update
- Click + New destination next to Itinerary
- Search for and select your next destination
How Do I Remove a Destination?
Plans change. You can remove individual destinations from a Trip without deleting the entire Trip.
On mobile:
- Tap into the Trip you want to update
- Scroll to the destination you want to remove
- Tap the more options icon (three dots)
- Tap Remove Destination
On the web:
- Click into the Trip you want to update
- Scroll to the destination you want to remove
- Click the more options icon (three dots)
- Click Remove Destination
If you remove the only destination in a Trip, you'll be prompted to add a new one or delete the Trip. If the destination is associated with an active Stay, you'll see a warning before it's removed.
How Do I Delete a Trip?
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Scroll to Your Trips and tap the Trip you want to delete
- Tap the more options icon (three dots)
- Tap Delete Trip
- Confirm by tapping Delete
On the web:
- Click Trips
in the left navigation bar
- Click the Trip you want to delete
- Click the more options icon (three dots)
- Click Delete Trip
- Confirm by clicking Delete
Sync Your Google Calendar
Already have flights or hotels booked? Connect your Google Calendar and Couchsurfing will automatically suggest destinations based on upcoming events with a location different from your home address. No need to recreate plans you've already made.
Destination suggestions will appear in your Trip Gallery, and you can turn any of them into a new Trip or add them to an existing one. New events added to your calendar sync automatically within a few minutes.
To connect your calendar, look for the Sync Calendar prompt in your Trip Gallery or Settings.
A Couple Things to Know:
- Trips can't be created with dates in the past. Your start date must be today or later.
- You can add repeated destinations to the same Trip.
- Deleting a Trip will remove it and all its destinations from your Trip Gallery.
- Calendar Sync currently supports Google Calendar only.
