[Removing Abusive or Commercial Content] If you're reporting a member's profile or content, please Report the content (http://bit.ly/1T1Ubgf). We will then review any content that is reported to us and take appropriate actions based on our Terms of Use. Thanks for your help keeping Couchsurfing free from abuse! [Fake or Duplicate Profile] If you believe to have found a fake or duplicate profile, please send us direct links to the original profile (or the member's full name) and to the suspected duplicate profile so that we can review them together. Thanks for your help in keeping Couchsurfing free from abuse! [Online Harassment] Harassment is against our Terms of Use, and is something that we take very seriously. If you are receiving unwanted messages from a member, please block them (Learn how here - http://bit.ly/1T1UA2s). If you ever feel that your personal safety is at risk, we recommend that you contact local authorities directly. [Surfer No Show] It’s frustrating to plan to host someone only to have them fail to show up or notify you that their plans may have changed. It’s important to keep in mind that people have limited time and internet access while traveling, which can make it difficult to organize accommodation. If a surfer didn't show up, please select “Name didn’t stay with me”, which will send our system signals about this member’s behavior. You can choose to leave a Personal reference for this member (http://bit.ly/1oUIX2E). Please consider whether your experience is something that other community members need to know. [Host Cancellation] It’s frustrating to plan to stay with someone only to have your host cancel last minute. Organizing places to stay can definitely be stressful, especially if you have limited time or internet access. If you have access to the internet or a mobile device with the Couchsurfing app, you may want to consider creating a Public Trip (http://bit.ly/1UZ5vNQ). Local hosts will be able to see your request and offer to host you, though we recommend that you remember to review profiles of potential hosts very carefully. If your host cancelled on you at the last minute, you can choose to leave a Personal reference for this member (http://bit.ly/1oUIX2E). Please consider whether your experience is something that other community members need to know. [Inappropriate Behavior] If you would like to open a confidential report regarding your experience, *please* send us a link to the profile of the member that you are reporting and a description of what happened so that we can take quick action. [Personality Conflict] Sometimes issues between members arise out of personality conflicts or cultural differences, and not because the person involved was trying to be hurtful. You can choose to leave a reference for this member (http://bit.ly/1oUIX2E). Please consider whether your experience is something that other community members need to know. If you would like to open a confidential report regarding your experience, please send us a link to the member's profile and a description of what happened. [Potentially Dangerous] If you believe a Couchsurfing member may be dangerous or pose a threat to you or other members, *please* send us a link to the member's profile and a description of your experience with them so that we can take quick action. If you believe that your, or anyone else's, safety is in risk, please reach out to the local authorities. [Related to my personal safety] If you have concerns about your immediate safety or have been the victim of a crime, please contact the authorities for immediate support. You can also consider alerting your embassy if you are traveling abroad for further assistance. Once in a safe location, you are welcome to reach out to us directly with details of your experience. *Please* include the name and profile link of the member you had the experience with so that we can review possible actions. [Related to my personal property] We’re very sorry if your personal property was damaged or stolen. Using the form below, please send us a description of what happened, the name and the profile link of the member you had the experience with so that we can review possible actions. [Related to another person's experience] Any criminal activity should be reported directly to the authorities by the affected person when possible. If you wish to report another person's experience, we can open a confidential report on the matter, but keep in mind that we can only discuss an issue with the immediately affected member. You can encourage them to reach out to us directly with details of their experience. [Disputing a reference left on my profile] We're sorry if you received a reference that you do not agree with. We are only able to remove references if they violate the Reference Guidelines (http://bit.ly/1SLubDq). Please review these before reporting the reference. If you believe you have received a reference that violates the guidelines, please fill out this Reference Dispute Form: http://bit.ly/1S84H5z This is the only way we can review disputed references. If the the reference you are reporting does violate the guidelines, it will be removed from your profile within 72 hours of you completing the form. [My reference has been hidden or removed] Please send us a link to your profile and we'll be happy to explain why it has been hidden or removed. [Reporting a Missing Person] If your guest has gone missing please reach out to the authorities with your concerns. If the police is already investigating a missing person and they require our assistance they can reach out to us directly. If you are expecting a guest and they have not showed up it is possible that they had a last minute change of plans. If they have recently logged into their profile, you can send them a Couchsurfing message to express your concerns. If you have any concerns about a missing member, please feel free to let us know and we’ll do our best to help. [Other Safety Related::Other] Let us know how we can help! [Managing Requests] When it comes to managing Couchrequests, it’s important to update the ‘status’ (Accept, Maybe, Decline, Confirmed) of the request, both as the host or the surfer as it lets everyone know if a trip is actually happening or not and will allow you both to leave confirmed Surf and Host references for eachother. If you haven't responded to a request using one the statuses mentioned above, the site will continue to send reminders to you asking for an official status change. [Archiving and Deleting Messages] You should be able to archive any message thread that you don't want to see in your inbox by clicking the "X" next to thread in the main inbox view. While you may move messages and requests to your "Archived" folder, messages sent through the Couchsurfing system cannot be deleted at this time. [Reply Rate Questions] The Reply Rate % only factors in replies to Couchrequests that members have received (not normal messages) in the last 6 months. At this time, replies only count if you change the status of the request to Yes, No, or Maybe in addition to replying (we understand that this currently isn't clear). We’re unfortunately unable to manually adjust or reset any individual's Reply Rate %. [Inbox Not Loading] If you’ve been having a trouble loading your inbox, this issue is likely related to extensions you have installed in your browser. Please make sure that you have ad blocker or script blocker browser extensions turned off when using Couchsurfing for the site to work correctly. Sometimes this can lead to confusing sorting possibilities! [Feature request] If you have a suggestion for a feature or feedback on an existing feature, the best way to let us know is by filling out this form: https://goo.gl/eJURvc. This form goes directly to our Product Team and will be taken into consideration for future site updates. We strive to constantly improve the site based on feedback from members. [Editing or deleting a reference I wrote] The reference system that no longer allows members to edit/delete references they have written. We are unable to move references from one "type" of reference to another (i.e. Personal to Surf/Host). In very rare cases, we can help members update the content of the reference they have left if the reference contains private information or if a mistake was made in the process of leaving the reference. In order to request to have your reference updated, please fill out this form: http://bit.ly/260vxDR This form is the only way references you have left can be reviewed. The support team does not handle requests to update or remove references. [Editing or deleting a reference I received] We're sorry if you received a reference that you do not agree with or one that was categorized incorrectly by the member that left it. We are only able to remove references if they violate the Reference Guidelines (http://bit.ly/1SLubDq). Please review these before reporting the reference. We cannot edit reference content, update the "Type" of reference, or change the feedback selection made. [I can't see a reference that I wrote] There are a few possible reasons why a reference you submitted reference isn't appearing: 1) The site is waiting for the other member to submit their reference 2) You left a ‘response’ to their reference on your profile instead of a reference for this member on their profile. 3) You submitted private feedback for this member, but never completed a public reference 4) The reference violated the Reference Guidelines (http://bit.ly/1SLubDq) If you wrote a "Surft" or "Host" reference and they haven't written you a reference yet (or they wrote you a “Personal” reference instead), your reference will not be published until they leave you a corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference (they can do so from their dashboard). Your reference will be published automatically after the 14 day window if the corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference isn't written. [I can't see a reference that I received] There are three possible reasons why you can’t see a reference on your profile: 1) The site is waiting for the other member to submit their reference 2) The other member left a ‘response’ to your reference on their profile instead of a reference for you on your profile. 3) The reference violated the Reference Guidelines (http://bit.ly/1SLubDq) If they wrote a "Surf" or "Host" reference and you haven't written them a reference for them yet (or wrote them a "Personal” reference), their reference will not be published until you leave them a corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference (you can do so from your dashboard as long as it is still within 14 days of the confirmed stay with this member). Their reference will be published automatically after 14 days if the corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference isn't written. [How to leave a reference] This FAQ article explains how to leave both Surf/Host references or Personal referneces for other members: http://bit.ly/1XvQi4t If you still have a question after reviewing this article, we’ll be happy to help. [My 14 day window expired] Members have a 14 day window after the last date of a confirmed trip to leave a Surf/Host reference for the other member. If the 14 day time limit has expired, or if you do not have a recent confirmed request with the other member, you cannot leave them or Guest or Host reference. That being said, members can always leave "Personal" references for other members. To see how to leave a Personal reference, please see this FAQ article: http://bit.ly/1XvQi4t [I received two references from the same member] Now, members are allowed to leave a reference for each stay. If a surfer visits a host more than once, they will be able to leave multiple references for this host. However, members are only allowed to write one reference for each individual visit. If you received multiple references from one member by mistake, please fill out this quick form so that we can review the references and remove one of them: http://bit.ly/1S84H5z [I left two references for the same member] Now, members are allowed to leave a reference for each stay. The fastest way to receive a refund is to fill out this form: http://bit.ly/1QIh8G4 You’ll receive a refund within 5-10 days of you completing the form. Please let us know if you do not. If you are wondering why you were charged, you likely opted to pay for Verification, an optional Couchsurfing program and the way Couchsurfing makes revenue in order to keep the site running. The cost of Verification is noted on the Verification page. Sorry if you didn’t see this! [Payment subscription] Currently, Verification run on an annual subscription basis. Your account will be charged on an annual basis unless you cancel your payment subscription. You can manage your payment subscription in your Account Settings: http://bit.ly/1SAkuao Verification subscriptions are the main way Couchsurfing receives revenue in order to keep the site running. If you annual charge already went through and you did not want to pay for Verification for another year, we’d be happy to refund they charge for you. The fastest way to receive a refund is to fill out this form: http://bit.ly/1QIh8G4 [Payment errors] If you see “There was an error processing your payment,” your card may have been declined when you attempted to pay for Verification. Declines can happen for a variety of reasons. Banks generally do not tell us why a payment was declined, so if all of the card information seems correct, it is best to contact your bank, inquire for more information, and ask for future charges to be accepted. Some members report that changing the currency to USD on the Verification page sometimes helps. If you live in an embargoed country, please let us know and we can see what we can do to help. [Postcard code not working] Sorry if you are having problems with your postcard verification code! So that we can manually verify your location, please let us know: The exact address we sent the postcard to on your postcard The verification code on your postcard [Postcard never arrived] Once your verification postcard is sent to your location, it will take 4-6 weeks for it to arrive to your address. You can check when we sent you the postcard in your Account & Settings page: http://bit.ly/23BTTlq If it's been more than 6 weeks after the 'Postcard sent' date and you still haven't received the postcard it may have been lost on the way. If that is the case, in order to request a new postcard, please go to your Account & Settings page (http://bit.ly/23BTTlq) and click "Edit/Verify your location". Then, enter your location, keeping the "Send me a code with a postcard to verify my address" box checked. Clicking "Save Address" will trigger a new postcard to be sent to that location. [Error when requesting postcard] Sorry if you've been having trouble requesting a postcard! For locations to work on the Couchsurfing site and to be Verified, they need to be found in Google's location database and our postcard provider’s database. Unfortunately, not all locations can be found in these databases. First, be sure to follow the steps in the “Having Trouble?” section at the bottom of this FAQ article (this solves most location updating issues): http://bit.ly/1qOyFmn If those steps didn’t help, please send us a link to a Google maps page showing your exact location so that we can look into this for you [How to request Postcard] To request a postcard, click the "Verify your address" link in the Verifications section of your profile page. Please note that your verified location will need to be the location you have set for your profile. When you receive the postcard (it should arrive 4-6 weeks after you request it), you can enter the code on the postcard to have your location verified. Updating your location while you have a pending postcard will void the code on that postcard. Also, updating your location while having a Verified location will remove your Location Verification, but you can request a new postcard to your new location any time you move to verify that location. [How to request SMS code] To Verify your phone number, go to your profile and click the "Verify your phone" in the Verifications section. You will then be prompted to enter your phone number (don't forget to select the appropriate country code!) and we'll send a SMS message with a code momentarily. Please keep the code ‘pop up’ box open until you receive the text message. You should receive the SMS message within a minute of you requesting one (in rare cases it can take up to 3 minutes). [Did not receive SMS code] Please let us know the phone number you are attempting to verify and the format you are using when entering your phone number. We'll be happy to look into it for you!
