Couchsurfing isn't just about finding a place to stay. It's about meeting people, and events are one of the best ways to do that. Whether it's a hike with locals, a language exchange at a cafe, or a casual meetup at a park, events are how the community comes together in real life.
You can browse events happening near you, mark the ones you're interested in, and connect with other members who are going. You can also explore events in cities around the world, not just where you live. And if you don't see something you like? Create your own. Any member can organize an event.
What Types of Events Are There?
There are two types of events on Couchsurfing:
Member Created Events are organized by fellow Couchsurfers. The member who creates the event is the organizer, with full control over the details. They can invite others, add co-organizers, and run the event however they like. These include things like Chill Outside, Explore Nearby, Go Out, Grab Drinks, Grab Food, Mingle, and Watch a Game.
Curated Events are larger events like music festivals, cultural celebrations, or major public gatherings. These show Couchsurfing Official as the organizer and may include a link to an external website for tickets or more info. Types include Concert, Community, Festival, Performing Arts, and Sports.
Curated Events are sourced from a third-party provider and listed for community awareness. Couchsurfing does not organize, sponsor, or have any affiliation with these events.
Both types show up on the same Events page. The difference is just who's behind it: your fellow Couchsurfers, or a bigger event happening in the city that the community might want to gather around.
How Do I Find and Join Events?
Tap Events to browse what's happening near you. You can explore events on a map or scroll through a list. When something catches your eye, open it up to see the details, who's going, and what people are saying about it in the discussion.
Each event has two RSVP options:
- Going confirms your attendance
- Interested saves the event to your events list without confirming
You can change your mind at any time. To cancel, just unselect Going and you'll be removed as an attendee.
Can I Help Organize a Curated Event?
Yes. If you see a Curated Event you'd love to help run, you can apply directly from the event page by tapping or clicking Apply to Organize.
Will I Be Notified About Event Updates?
If you've marked an event as Going, you'll receive notifications when:
- The event's time, date, or location changes
- The event is starting soon (one hour before)
- Someone invites you to an event
- You're added as an organizer
These notifications appear in your Activity Center .
One Thing to Know: Events are public and visible to all members. If you need to reach an event organizer, visit their profile from the event page and send them a message.
