There are two types of events on Couchsurfing, and both show up on the same Events page. The difference comes down to who's behind them.
Member Created Events
These are events organized by fellow Couchsurfers. Anyone can create one. When you do, you become the organizer with full control over the details. You can invite others, add co-organizers, and run the event however you like. Think casual meetups, hikes, food crawls, language exchanges, and game nights.
Member created event types include: Chill Outside, Explore Nearby, Go Out, Grab Drinks, Grab Food, Mingle, and Watch a Game.
Curated Events
Curated events are external events pulled into Couchsurfing from outside sources. These are listed with Couchsurfing Official as the organizer and often include a link to the event website. You'll find everything from farmer's markets and local classes to museum events, small venue concerts, and major festivals. If there's something worth doing in an area, chances are it'll show up here.
The cool part? You can apply to help organize a curated event and rally the Couchsurfing community around it. Just look for the Apply to Organize option on the event page, which will take you to the Help Center to submit a request.
Curated event types include: Concert, Community, Festival, Performing Arts, and Sports.
How Do I Know Which Type I'm Looking At?
Check who's listed as the organizer. If it shows Couchsurfing Official, it's a curated event. If it shows individual members, it's a member created event.
You can also filter events by type on the Events page to browse member created and curated event categories separately.
One Thing to Know: Whether you're joining a member created event or a curated event, the experience is the same. You can mark it as Going or Interested, join the discussion, and invite friends.
