Once you're a moderator, you'll see a Moderator Tools button on the community page. That's your home base for everything you need to keep things running smoothly.
How Do I Edit a Community?
Name, cover photo, description, tags, and moderators are all editable from the Edit Community screen.
On mobile:
- Open the community page
- Tap Moderator Tools
- Tap Edit Community
- Make your changes and tap Save
On the web:
- Open the community page
- Click Moderator Tools
- Click Edit Community
- Make your changes and click Save
A quick note on photos: use your own. No stock images, no screenshots, nothing owned by someone else. If you took it, it's yours to use.
And your description? That's your community's front door. Make it clear who it's for, what belongs here, and what the vibe is. New members should know exactly what they're walking into.
How Do I Ban or Unban a Member?
Banning is the last resort, not the first response. Warn first. Delete repeated violations. Ban when it's genuinely the right call.
To Ban a Member
On mobile:
- Open the community page
- Tap Moderator Tools
- Tap Community Members
- Find the member and tap Ban
- Select a reason
- Add details if helpful
- Tap Ban to confirm
On the web:
- Open the community page
- Click Moderator Tools
- Click Community Members
- Find the member and click Ban
- Select a reason and add details if needed
- Click Ban to confirm
Banned members can still view community posts, but they can't post, comment, or vote.
One Thing to Know: Non-members can post in Communities too. If someone outside your community is causing problems and warnings haven't worked, you won't be able to ban them. Contact our Trust and Safety team instead.
To Unban a Member
Bans can be reversed. If someone's clearly course-corrected, the door can open again.
On mobile:
- Open the community page
- Tap Moderator Tools
- Tap Banned Members
- Find the member and tap Unban
- Confirm
On the web:
- Open the community page
- Click Moderator Tools
- Click Banned Members
- Find the member and click Unban
- Confirm
How Do I Add or Remove Moderators?
Add moderators with intention. They get the same powers you have, so make sure they understand the community and its vibe before bringing them in.
On mobile:
- Open the community page
- Tap Moderator Tools
- Tap Edit Moderators
- Search or browse the Friends and Members tabs
- Toggle moderator status on or off
- Tap Apply
On the web:
- Open the community page
- Click Moderator Tools
- Click Edit Moderators
- Search or browse to find people to add or remove
- Click Apply
You can remove yourself as a moderator too. Just know that you won't be able to make changes unless another moderator adds you back.
How Do I Remove a Post?
As a moderator, you can remove any post in your community directly from the post itself.
On mobile:
- Find the post you want to remove
- Tap the more options
in the top right corner of the post
- Tap Remove Post
On the web:
- Find the post you want to remove
- Click the more options
in the top right corner of the post
- Click Remove Post
How Do I Delete a Community?
Deletion is permanent, and it's not instant. It goes to the Trust and Safety team for review. Before you go there, remember: all members will be removed, all posts and replies will be deleted, and there's no restoring it. Make sure it's the right call.
On mobile:
- Open the community page
- Tap Moderator Tools
- Tap Delete Community
- Review what will happen, then tap Start Deletion Request
- Select a reason
- Add details if helpful
- Tap Submit
On the web:
- Open the community page
- Click Moderator Tools
- Click Delete Community
- Review the consequences and click Start Deletion Request
- Select a reason and add details if needed
- Click Submit
You'll get a confirmation once your request is in. The Trust and Safety team will take it from there.
A Couple Things to Know:
- Banning a member doesn't automatically remove their existing posts, but you can remove any community post yourself as a moderator.
- Deleting a community is permanent: members, posts, and replies are gone for good.
- You can step down as moderator anytime, but you'll need someone to add you back if you change your mind.
- Safety concerns, harassment, or anything that feels above your pay grade? Don't handle it alone. Contact our Trust and Safety team.
