Chat is where connections turn into real conversations. Whether you're coordinating a stay, following up after an event, or just keeping in touch with people you've met along the way, it all happens here.
How Do I Access Chat?
On mobile:
- Tap Chat
in the bottom navigation bar
On the web:
- Click Chat
in the left navigation bar
Your conversations are sorted by most recent message. Unread chats are marked so nothing slips past you. Search by member name to find a specific conversation quickly.
Who Can I Chat With?
It depends on whether you're already friends:
- Friends: A chat is created automatically as soon as a friend request is accepted. Message each other freely, no limits.
- Non-friends: You'll need to send a chat request first. They'll need to accept it before the conversation can open. You can only have one open chat request or stay request at a time.
You can also create group chats with friends to plan trips, coordinate stays, or just stay connected with people from your travels.
What Can I Do From Chat?
Chat is also where all your stay activity lives. When you send or receive a stay request or host offer, the conversation and all the details happen right here. You'll see a banner at the top of the relevant chat so you always know what's pending or confirmed.
Beyond stays, you can:
- Send messages, photos, and attachments
- Edit or unsend your own messages
- Share a trip
- Create an event
- Copy a chat link to share the conversation externally
- Mute a chat (you stay in it, but notifications turn off)
- Leave a chat (you'll need to be re-added by another member to rejoin)
- Report a message or the full conversation
Can I See When Someone Has Read My Message?
Not yet. Messages show as "Delivered" once received, but there's no read receipt at this time.
A Couple Things to Know:
- Chat search finds members by name, not by message content
- Chat notifications depend on your device's notification settings
