Some friendships hit different. Close Friends is your way to spotlight the people who matter most on Couchsurfing, the ones you'd actually crash with, host without thinking twice, or hit up the second you land in their city.
What Is the Close Friends Feature?
Close Friends lets you carve out a smaller, tighter group within your full friends list. Think of it as your inner circle: the people you trust most, all in one easy-to-find spot.
How Do I Add or Remove a Close Friend?
Adding someone to your Close Friends (or removing them) follows the same path. Once you reach the right menu, you'll see options like Add to Close Friends or Close Friends (toggle to remove).
There are two ways to get there, depending on where you are in the app.
Option 1: From the member's profile
On mobile:
- Open the member's profile
- Tap Friends (or Close Friends if they're already in your inner circle) in the upper right corner of the screen
- Tap Add to Close Friends to add them, or tap Close Friends to remove them
On the web:
- Open the member's profile
- Click Friends (or Close Friends if they're already in your inner circle) in the upper right corner of the page
- Click Add to Close Friends to add them, or click Close Friends to remove them
Option 2: From your friends list
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Tap your profile
in the upper right corner
- Tap Friends on your profile page
- Tap the three dots beside the friend's name
- Tap Add to Close Friends to add them, or tap Close Friends to remove them
On the web:
- Click your profile
- Click Friends on your profile page
- Click the three dots beside the friend's name
- Click Add to Close Friends to add them, or click Close Friends to remove them
To see only your Close Friends, tap or click the Close Friends filter on your Friends page. Instant inner circle view.
A Couple Things to Know:
- You can only add existing friends to your Close Friends list. If you're not connected yet, send them a friend request first.
- You can have up to 12 Close Friends at a time. If you've hit the limit, you'll need to remove someone before adding a new one.
- Removing someone from Close Friends doesn't unfriend them. They'll still be on your regular friends list, no awkwardness.
