Couchsurfing doesn't offer the option to selectively delete individual pieces of data from your account. To have all of your personal data removed, you'll need to delete your account entirely.
Before You Delete
A couple of things worth taking care of first:
- Download your data. Head to Settings → Export Data to request a copy of your profile information and photos before everything is gone.
- Cancel your membership. Deleting your account doesn't automatically cancel an active membership. Handle that separately first to avoid being billed after you've left.
How Do I Delete My Account and Data?
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Tap your profile
in the upper right corner
- Tap Settings
- Tap Delete Account
- Review the summary, provide a reason, and confirm your request
On the web:
- Click your profile
in the left navigation bar
- Click Settings
in the upper right corner
- Click Delete Account
- Review the summary, provide a reason, and confirm your request
After submitting, you'll receive a confirmation email. You must click the link in that email for the deletion to go through. This is final and cannot be undone.
What Happens to My Data?
Once you confirm, your account is disabled and the deletion process begins. Your personal data will be permanently deleted or anonymized in line with GDPR and data protection requirements.
Conversations you were part of will remain on the platform, but your name will show as "Deleted Account" and your profile will no longer be accessible.
What If I Just Want to Take a Break?
Not ready to go for good? You can deactivate your account instead. Deactivation temporarily hides your profile while keeping all your data intact. You can come back at any time just by logging in. Go to Settings → Deactivate Account to get started.
One Thing to Know: If there are active Trust and Safety or support cases on your account, the deletion process may be paused for review.
