Having trouble completing a payment? Here's what to check and how to get it sorted.
What Payment Methods Are Accepted?
Couchsurfing accepts the following payment methods:
- Credit or debit card
- PayPal
- Apple In-App Purchase (iOS)
- Google In-App Purchase (Android)
Why Was My Credit Card Declined?
If you see an error when trying to complete a payment, your card is likely declined. Before contacting your bank, check the following:
- Make sure all payment details are entered correctly, including card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing address
- Confirm your billing information matches what your bank has on file
- Check that your card hasn't expired
- Make sure you have sufficient funds or available credit
- Check whether online or international transactions are enabled on your card
Banks don't share the specific reason for a declined payment with us, so if everything looks correct on your end, you'll need to contact your bank directly. Banks sometimes automatically block transactions they consider unusual, including online or international charges.
If you've confirmed your card details are correct and your bank isn't blocking the charge but the payment is still failing, try a different payment method. If the issue continues, please get in touch with our support team.
How Do I Update My Payment Method?
You can update your payment method at any time without canceling your membership first.
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Tap your profile
in the upper right corner
- Tap Settings
- Tap Subscription
- Tap Web Subscriptions
- Follow the on-screen prompts to update your payment details
On the web:
- Click your profile
in the left navigation bar
- Click Settings
in the upper right corner
- Click Manage Subscriptions
- Click Web Subscriptions
- Follow the on-screen prompts to update your payment details
What If None of the Payment Methods Work for Me?
If none of the available payment options work for you, reach out to our support team and we'll do our best to help.
A Couple Things to Know:
- For memberships purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play, payment details are managed through your device's subscription settings, not through Couchsurfing directly.
- If you see charges on your account that you don't recognize or believe to be unauthorized, contact our support team right away.
