Need a break from Couchsurfing? No problem. Deactivating your account temporarily hides your profile and pauses your activity. Your data, connections, and history are all kept safe, and you can come back whenever you're ready.
How Do I Deactivate?
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Tap your profile
in the upper right corner
- Tap Settings
- Tap Deactivate Account
- Select a reason and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm
On the web:
- Click your profile
in the left navigation bar
- Click Settings
in the upper right corner
- Click Deactivate Account
- Select a reason and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm
Once confirmed, you'll be logged out and your account will be deactivated.
What Happens to My Account When It's Deactivated?
Your profile is hidden and your account activity is paused, but all of your data, including your profile, connections, and history, is retained. All emails, texts, and notifications are also stopped while your account is inactive. You can reactivate at any time by logging back in.
How Do I Reactivate My Account?
Just log back into Couchsurfing using your usual sign-in method. Your account and profile will be right where you left them.
A Couple Things to Know:
- Deactivation may not take effect everywhere instantly. Due to caching, your profile may briefly remain visible in search and chat for a short period after deactivating. Your account actions are blocked right away, though.
- If your account was deactivated by the Couchsurfing team due to a policy violation, you won't be able to reactivate it yourself. Contact support if you have questions about your account status.
- If you're unable to log in to deactivate your account, contact our support team with a link to your profile and we'll help you out.
- Deactivation is not the same as deletion. To permanently remove your account and data, use Settings → Delete Account instead. Deletion is irreversible.
