If you'd like to permanently remove your account and all of your personal data from Couchsurfing, you can request deletion from Settings. This is irreversible. Once complete, your account cannot be recovered.
Not sure you want to leave for good? Consider deactivating instead. Deactivation hides your profile and pauses your activity, but keeps your data safe so you can come back whenever you're ready.
How Do I Delete My Account?
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Tap your profile
in the upper right corner
- Tap Settings
- Tap Delete Account
- Review the summary screen, provide a reason, and confirm your request
On the web:
- Click your profile
in the left navigation bar
- Click Settings
in the upper right corner
- Click Delete Account
- Review the summary screen, provide a reason, and confirm your request
After submitting your request, you'll receive a confirmation email. You must click the confirmation link in that email for the deletion to proceed. This action is final and cannot be undone. Once deleted, your account cannot be restored.
What Happens After I Request Deletion?
Once you confirm via email, your account is disabled and the deletion process begins. It may take up to 90 days to complete. After that, your personal data is permanently deleted or anonymized in line with GDPR and data protection requirements.
What Data Gets Deleted?
All personal data associated with your account is deleted or anonymized, including your profile information, photos, and personal details. Any references you wrote on other members' profiles are also removed.
Any conversations you were part of will remain on the platform, but your name will change to "Deleted Account" and your profile and avatar will no longer be accessible.
A Couple Things to Know:
- Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your membership. If you have an active membership, cancel it separately before deleting your account. Otherwise, billing will continue as scheduled.
- If you have open Trust and Safety or support cases at the time of your request, the automated deletion process may be paused for review.
- Deletion is permanent. If you're unsure, use Settings → Deactivate Account instead. You can always come back.
