A strong profile is everything on Couchsurfing. It's how members decide whether to connect with you, accept a Stay request, or invite you to something. It's well worth the effort.
How Do I Access My Profile Completeness Page?
Your profile has a Complete Your Profile prompt at the top. Tap or click it to see where you're at and what to add next.
On mobile:
- Tap Library
in the bottom navigation bar
- Tap your profile
in the upper right corner
- Tap the Complete Your Profile prompt on your profile
On the web:
- Click your profile
- Click the Complete Your Profile prompt on your profile
What Steps Do I Need to Complete?
Your Profile Completeness page tracks each step and shows your progress as you go. Here's what you'll be asked to fill in:
- Prompts - Share your personality with at least 1 prompt
- Where I've Visited - Mark places you've explored
- Where I've Lived - List the cities that shaped you
- Photo Gallery - Add at least 3 photos
- About Me - Tell your story in a few sentences
- Basic Info - Help others understand who you are
Some of these steps build on what you entered during signup. Your Profile Completeness page will only show the steps you still need to finish.
Why Does It Matter?
Your profile is how other members get to know you before you've even met. It's your chance to show your personality, share what you're into, and help people with similar interests find you. A complete profile gives hosts and travelers a real sense of who you are, which makes them much more likely to connect.
A heads up: some actions like sending Stay requests or chatting with members you haven't connected with yet need at least 2 completed profile steps. The more you put in, the more you get back.
What About My Privacy?
You're in control of what others see. A few things worth knowing as you fill out your profile:
Your gender and sexuality both default to hidden. You can choose to show them on your profile at any time, or keep them private. Either way, they won't be visible to non-logged-in visitors regardless of your setting.
Lifestyle details are entirely optional. Fields like your social style, star sign, tidiness, and similar categories are never required. The only interests-related requirement is selecting at least 3 interests during signup.
What If I Remove Information I Previously Added?
Completed steps are not reset if you later remove the information. The platform guides you through each step once and won't prompt you to redo it.
What Happens When I Finish All the Steps?
Once you've completed all available steps, the Complete Your Profile page will no longer appear. From there, you're all set to start exploring the platform. Browse profiles to find hosts or travelers, join a Community that matches your interests, or create a Trip to let others know where you're headed.
