It's frustrating to plan to stay with someone only to have your host cancel last minute. Organizing places to stay can definitely be stressful, especially if you have limited time or internet access.
If you have access to the internet or a mobile device with the Couchsurfing app, you may want to consider creating a Public Trip. Local hosts will be able to see your request and offer to host you, though we recommend that you remember to review profiles of potential hosts very carefully.
If your host cancelled on you at the last minute, you can choose to leave a Personal reference for this member. Please consider whether your experience is something that other community members need to know.
It's frustrating to plan to host someone only to have them fail to show up or notify you that their plans may have changed. It's important to keep in mind that people have limited time and internet access while traveling, which can make it difficult to organize accommodation.
If a surfer didn't show up, please select "Name didn't stay with me", which will send our system signals about this member's behavior. You can choose to leave a Personal reference for this member. Please consider whether your experience is something that other community members need to know.
If you believe a Couchsurfing member may be dangerous or pose a threat to you or other members, please send us a link to the member's profile and a description of your experience with them so that we can take quick action. Your report will be confidential.
If you believe that your, or anyone else's, safety is in immediate risk, please reach out to the local authorities.
If you're reporting a member's profile or content, please report the content. We will then review any content that is reported to us and take appropriate actions based on our Terms of Use.

Your Couchsurfing membership is a way to financially
support the Couchsurfing community and Couchsurfing's
global mission.
You can choose between a monthly
membership or an annual membership, and upgrade your
account with Verificaiton.
You can manage your plans in the payments section of your Account Settings.
If you see "There was an error processing your payment," your card may have been declined when you attempted to pay for Verification.
Declines can happen for a variety of reasons. Banks generally do not tell us why a payment was declined, so if all of the card information seems correct, it is best to contact your bank, inquire for more information, and ask for future charges to be accepted.
Some members report that changing the currency to USD on the Verification page sometimes helps.
If you live in an embargoed country, please let us know and we can see what we can do to help.
Refunds are not available for any Couchsurfing memberships or Verification purchases made after 05/14/2020. For refunds on Verification purchases made before that date, please contact our support team.
We are asking for memberships from hosts and guests alike so that others may safely experience the joy of travel and Couchsurfing's unique, global community.
You will be able to travel the world by surfing with hosts, rediscover your city via local events/hangouts and share your home/city by becoming a host.
Couchsurfing is asking all members to make memberships

Verification is an optional program and not required to use Couchsurfing.
Let us know if you have any specific questions about Verification and we'll be happy to help.
Please let us know the phone number you are attempting to verify and the format you are using when entering your phone number. We'll be happy to look into it for you!
To Verify your phone number, go to your profile and click the "Verify your phone" in the Verifications section. You will then be prompted to enter your phone number (don't forget to select the appropriate country code!) and we'll send a SMS message with a code momentarily.
Please keep the code 'pop up' box open until you receive the text message. You should receive the SMS message within a minute of you requesting one (in rare cases it can take up to 3 minutes).
There are a few reasons your account may not be appearing
in search results:
The site is not able to find the
location you set for your profile. To update your
location successfully, please visit your Account &
Settings page.
You have recently received a
Couchrequest (within the last 8 hours). Hosts are
temporarily removed from Host search results after
receiving a Couchrequest to give other hosts a chance to
receive requests.
Your location is more than 10KM
away from city center. The default search radius for
host search results is 10KM, you can change this radius
filter on the host search page.
You have an old
"Hide in Search" setting. You can check and disable this
in your Account & Settings.

Posts in Local Discussion pages are sorted by a combination of both 'time of last reply' & 'distance' (how far away the location in the post is from the location of the Local Discussion page you are viewing). Sometimes this can lead to confusing sorting possibilities!

We're sorry if you received a reference that you do not agree with or one that was categorized incorrectly by the member that left it. We are only able to remove references if they violate the Reference Guidelines. Please review these before reporting the reference.
We cannot edit reference content, update the "Type" of reference, or change the feedback selection made.
If you believe you have received a reference that
violates the guidelines, please submit a request with
these details:
- Link/URL to your Couchsurfing
profile
- Link/URL to the Couchsurfing profile of
the other member
- Reason for requesting edit or
removal of reference (Please be sure to review the
Reference Guidelines)
If we agree that the reference needs to be updated or removed because it is in violation of our Reference Guidelines, it will be updated upon review. If we are unable to remove a reference you are disputing, you can always leave a public response to the reference you have received. Learn how to do so in this article.
The reference system that no longer allows members to edit/delete references they have written.
We are unable to move references from one "type" of reference to another (i.e. Personal to Surf/Host).
In very rare cases, we can help members update the
content of the reference they have left if the reference
contains private information or if a mistake was made in
the process of leaving the reference. Please submit a
request to edit/remove your reference with the following
information:
- Link/URL to your Couchsurfing
profile
- Link/URL to the Couchsurfing profile of
the other member
- Reason for requesting edit or
removal of reference (Please be sure to review the
Reference Guidelines)
If we agree that the reference needs to be updated or removed because it is in violation of our Reference Guidelines, it will be updated upon review.
There are three possible reasons why you can't see a
reference on your profile:
1) The site is waiting
for the other member to submit their reference
2)
The other member left a 'response' to your reference on
their profile instead of a reference for you on your
profile.
3) The reference violated the Reference
Guidelines
If they wrote a "Surf" or "Host" reference and you haven't written them a reference for them yet (or wrote them a "Personal" reference), their reference will not be published until you leave them a corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference (you can do so from your dashboard as long as it is still within 14 days of the confirmed stay with this member). Their reference will be published automatically after 14 days if the corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference isn't written.
There are a few possible reasons why a reference you
submitted reference isn't appearing:
1) The site is
waiting for the other member to submit their reference
2) You left a 'response' to their reference on your
profile instead of a reference for this member on their
profile.
3) You submitted private feedback for this
member, but never completed a public reference
4)
The reference violated the Reference Guidelines
If you wrote a "Surf" or "Host" reference and they haven't written you a reference yet (or they wrote you a "Personal" reference instead), your reference will not be published until they leave you a corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference (they can do so from their dashboard). Your reference will be published automatically after the 14 day window if the corresponding "Surf" or "Host" reference isn't written.
For help on how to leave both Surf/Host references or Personal references for other members, please contact our support team.
If you still have a question, we'll be happy to help.
Members have a 14 day window after the last date of a confirmed trip to leave a Surf/Host reference for the other member. If the 14 day time limit has expired, or if you do not have a recent confirmed request with the other member, you cannot leave them or Guest or Host reference.
That being said, members can always leave "Personal" references for other members by visiting the other member's profile.
You should be able to archive any message thread that you don't want to see in your inbox by clicking the "X" next to thread in the main inbox view.
While you may move messages and requests to your "Archived" folder, messages sent through the Couchsurfing system cannot be deleted at this time.
If you've been having a trouble loading your inbox, this issue is likely related to extensions you have installed in your browser. Please make sure that you have ad blocker or script blocker browser extensions turned off when using Couchsurfing for the site to work correctly.
If you'd prefer to keep these extensions on, you can also try to use Couchsurfing on a different web browser to see if that helps.

When it comes to managing Couchrequests, it's important to update the 'status' (Accept, Maybe, Decline, Confirmed) of the request, both as the host or the surfer as it lets everyone know if a trip is actually happening or not and will allow you both to leave confirmed Surf and Host references for each other.
If you haven't responded to a request using one the statuses mentioned above, the site will continue to send reminders to you asking for an official status change.
The Reply Rate % only factors in replies to Couchrequests that members have received (not normal messages) in the last 6 months.
At this time, replies only count if you change the status of the request to Yes, No, or Maybe in addition to replying (we understand that this currently isn't clear).
We're unfortunately unable to manually adjust or reset any individual's Reply Rate %.
To edit your profile content, go to your profile page. Once on your profile, click the Edit Profile button.
Once you click into Edit profile, you will see your Hosting Availability and fields to edit the rest of your profile content. There is also a "My Home" tab where you can edit your hosting information and preferences.
To edit your account settings, including your age, name, username, and address, please click on "Account & Settings" link in the drop-down menu that appears when you click on your profile picture in the navigation header at the top of any Couchsurfing page.
You should be able to update your Hosting Availability from your Dashboard, or by going to your profile, clicking Edit Profile, updating your Hosting Availability and then saving.
The available Hosting Availability options are "Accepting Guests", "Maybe Accepting Guests", "Wants to Meet Up" or "Not Accepting Guests".
When your Couch Status is set to "Wants to Meet Up" or "Not Accepting Guests" other members will not be able to send you Couchrequests.
Your profile page summarizes Host/Surf experiences that are linked to a confirmed stay and a reference.
